COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Doctoral Programs at Juliana King University provide excellent training for those who desire to grow in a deeper relationship with the Lord. Students learn what it means to be God’s disciple and an integral part of the of the Body of Christ. These programs arm students with the type of Biblical education that will equip them for effective leadership in the Christian community and various ministries throughout the world. JKU endeavors to prepare education from a broad perspective about competent service in the local Church, ministry, classroom, and community.
JKU Doctoral Programs give special emphasis to preparing students for ministry within their particular tradition, Church, and culture.
PREREQUISITE
A Master’s or Master of Divinity and passing the graduate entrance exam.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
- A minimum of at least 90 credits hours. All Doctoral Programs require completion and defense of a dissertation on a Christian topic.
- Spring Semesters & Fall Semesters – Students must take a minimum of 4 courses, 1 elective course, and complete and defend a dissertation.
- 90 credit hours (equivalent to 432 hours of classroom instruction)

DWT-705: Biblical Scholarly Writing … 5 credit hours
Students will write a biblical research paper that focus on one of the traditional areas of academic competence – Old Testament, New Testament, Christian Organizational Leadership, Christian Ministry, or Systematic Christian Theology. This course allows doctoral students to prepare a biblical scholarly presentation that will develop and refine spiritual skills needed to effectively write their dissertation.

MDT-700: Biblical Research … 5 credit hours
This course provides students with an in-depth understanding on how to conduct biblical scholarly research. During this course, students are assigned a biblical topic which they must research and draft a research paper.

PM-801: Pastoral Ministry … 5 credit hours
This course provides examines the person and work of the pastoral minister. Students examine the essentials of pastoral ministry, Scripture, prayer, spiritual direction, and order your private world to be one of pastor. Through field trips and guest lectures, students get a broad understanding of what a pastor does on a daily basis. Topics include but are not limited to spiritual formation, excellence in preaching, pastoral care, and biblical counseling.

POL-712: Executive Church and Para Church Leadership … 5 credit hours
This course is designed to enhance a students’ leadership, church administration, and soft skills knowledge while preparing them to lead in the church, para church and mission contexts. Students will examine and apply organizational leadership theories, discuss how to manage organizational behavior and change to increase organizational effectiveness, develop soft skills, and identify practical biblical examples that help apply leadership principals. Topics include motivating teams, strategic thinking, spiritual formation, and corporate and personal ethics, strategic planning, biblical leadership development, spiritual personal management, conflict resolution, church organization ethics, church advancement, and church systems information.

MDB-812: Major Bible Doctrine … 5 credit hours
This course examines the 10 major doctrines of the Bible with an emphasis on the pastor or church leader knowing God more fully while understanding and practicing sound theology. Students focus on learning how to teach correct doctrine and refute false doctrine and that the correct belief must be reflected in correct behavior.

COM-714: Context of Christian Ministry … 5 credit hours
The course is designed to give students a broad exposure to practical essentials for success in ministry in the present day. Students identify current issues within the Church and proposed solutions by ministers and church leaders. Topics include the foundation of Christian ministry, the formation of the minister, function of the ministry in and through the local church, spiritual discipline, communication, team building, conflict mediation, transparency and vulnerability, healthy life styles, and commitment to humble courage. Film presentations and site discussions will part of this course.

CHT-715: Christian Critical thinking … 5 credit hours
This course teaches students to think critically, argue persuasively, and communicate clearly utilizing biblical principles. Students learn how to distinguish between valid and invalid Christian reasoning, to recognize patterns of deductive and inductive arguments, to understand evaluate the soundness of arguments both in everyday contexts and in writings of major philosophers.

THE-601: Advanced Study of Theology … 5 credit hours
This course examines the systematic and philosophical theology that focuses on the doctrine of God, the Trinity, Christology, and the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit. Students analyze the historic Christian church’s development of Trinitarian and Christological theology. Special emphasis is given to the development and articulation of the Christian doctrine of God including the divine perfections and nature.

MPS-704: Sermon Speaking Preparation … 5 credit hours
This course examines the methodologies and practices of preparing and delivering a dynamic Christian sermon. Students learn how to prepare a sermon form a Biblical text with emphasis on expository preaching. Special emphasis is given to the Biblical truths of Scripture. Each student must deliver three messages and critique the messages from other students.

APTH-800: Christian Apologetic … 5 credit hours
This course is designed to give students an introduction to the biblical, theological, historical, and philosophy foundations of Christian apologetics. Emphasis is given to the differences between Christian thought and select example of non-Christian thought. Students explore some of the assorted challenges to Christian belief and provides a survey of resources for thinking about those concerns. Topics include Christian virtues that need to be cultivated in contemporary apologetics given the religious and philosophical diversity and volatile social dynamics that characterize our world.

CM-600: Church Management … 5 credit hours
This course studies management tool for effective church management. Students study church management theory, church administration, and styles of leadership in Christian church and ministries. Topics include visions and mission statements that define the current ministries of the Christian Church, up to date Bylaws, written personal policies, investment policies total return investment and spending policy, consent agenda, efficient and effective financial reporting, and budget development.

OGL-605: Church Organizational Leadership … 5 credit hours
This course examines biblical organizational theories and leadership in the local church or various Christian ministries. Topics include organizational goals, priorities and strategies interfacing with the behavior of individuals and groups inside the organization and in other affecting organizations. Special emphasis is given to the effect of organizational cultures and behaviors.

PSL-712: Church Leadership Skill … 5 credit hours
This course is designed to teach students how to acquire leadership skills that line up with God’s character and ways, are empowered by the Holy Spirit, and produce eternal results using godly processes. Students focus of communication and listening. Topics include assessing, coordinating, delegating, goal-setting & vision casting, managing conflict, strategic planning, organizing, staffing, team building, spirit- fill decision making, resourcefulness, and stewardship.

JIH-612: Advanced Study of Old Testament Hebrew … 5 credit hours
This course is designed to build on courses # BHTH-334 and # JIH-512 to provide students with an in-depth understanding of Biblical interpretation of Hebrew word to reveal the root meaning for spiritual understanding. Students further basic principles of Biblical Hebrew, including basic bible language and vocabulary and the utilization of significant Hebrew tools in the old Testament exegesis.

This course is designed to build on course # ITG-340 and give an in-depth understanding of the basic Biblical principles of Biblical Greek, basic Bible Language and vocabulary and the utilization of significant Greek tools in the New Testament exegesis

MMC-540: Biblical Marriage Counseling … 5 credit hours
This course provides students with an overview of marriage in Christianity. Students will examine preparation for Christian marriage, the Christian family structure and function, building effective family roles and relationships, and biblical principle and strategies for resolving marital problems.

PML 601 Biblical Chaplaincies … 5 credit hours
This course focuses on teaching students holistic Christian care. Students examine the theoretical and religious foundations for chaplaincy and are provided with practical training in pastoral care, counseling grief, marriage and family issues, prisoner, and loss and crisis. Issues dealing with ethics and professional practice are discussed and special emphasis is given to the personal spiritual formation of a chaplain.

BDT-800 – 900: Biblical Research/Case Studies … 5 credit hours
In this course students select topics that educate the Christian community from a biblical perspective on Christian life and prepare findings based on the results of their investigations. Findings are orally presented in class and critiqued by students and faculty.

CTH-825: Pastoral Critical thinking … 5 credit hours
This course builds on course #PM-801 and is designed to help students develop awareness of key pastoral care resources, effective listening, spiritual assessment, the ability to articulate biblical solutions to day to day and congregational issues.

MTD-810: Dissertation … 12 credit hours
Students must draft a dissertation that is theological in orientation, integrated in scope, and be a substantial contribution to research in the field of Christian theology, demonstrating originality, creativity, breadth of research, and careful argumentation. Students will submit and secure approval for a topic from the Doctoral Committee, write the first two chapters under the guidance of dissertation advisor, and ultimately successfully defend their dissertation before the dissertation committee.

PAPH-900: Christian Prospective and Philosophy … 5 credit hours
This course examines the philosophical issues relating to the Christian prospective of the Church, the concept of God, arguments for and against God’s existence, the nature of the religious experience, knowledge, faith, the problem of evil and free will in the 21st Century.

ATB-815: Authority of the Total Bible … 5 credit hours
This course examines how the Bible enables humankind to discover the will of God for our lives. Students analyze the Bible as an interpretation of history, showing how men (as individuals and as nations) have either been blessed or punished by God for their attitude towards Him and His holy law. Students will also inductively study of the Bible from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation.

This course provides students with an in-depth study of Divinity and its relationship with humanity as it relates to the Church of Jesus Christ.

This course will teach the student about the books of the minor Prophets and major Prophets. Students will also learn how the minor prophetic ministries evolved and set precedent in the major prophetic ministries.

This course will teach a student how to successfully develop an effective leadership team for a church and how to sustain growth within the church.

This course is designed to teach students that drama is a very powerful ministry tool because God choose to communicate through arts and drama. Students learn how biblical drama can be used to impact the church and the world for Christ.

Electives - ICBM-210: Introduction to Church Media Ministry … 3 credit hours
This course introduces students to church media ministries. Students learn how media ministries carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our visually-driven, ever-changing world through the use of technology and media. Students also learn the importance of equipping other ministries of the church to use digital and electronic media as a worship and outreach tool.

This course examines biblical cross cultural patterns in evangelism. Students examine evangelism in various cultures and compare evangelism to Christian ministries in the United States.
